Nilah is a late-game melee hyper-carry with huge duelling and team-fighting potential. Since Nilah's laning phase is weak due to her low range, she can struggle to get to the late game without a disadvantage. Her healing, damage and armor penetration scales with crit chance, so you always want to build critical strike chance on her.
After an attack crits, Nilah heals herself based on the damage dealt. This means she always wants to build critical strike items to amplify her healing even more. Excess healing is converted into an equivalent amount of shield that lasts a few seconds.
Passive: Nilah gains a percentage of her current critical strike chance as armor penetration. This makes Nilah strong against bruisers and tanks that will be building armor throughout the game.
Active: Nilah cracks her whip-blade in a straight line, dealing physical damage to enemies hit along the way.
Formless Blade can be cast during Slipstream, which leaves behind a wave that is sent towards her, dealing damage to all enemies hit. Use this ability during the laning phase to farm minions without getting poked and to push the lane when needed. After Formless Blade hits an enemy, Nilah gains attack speed and range, and her attacks also deal damage in a cone.
Nilah envelops herself in a mist, during which she gains movement speed, reduces incoming magic damage taken and becomes immune to attacks. The timing of this ability is super important.
Nilah can dodge things like Twisted Fate's gold card and stop the stacking of Tristana's bomb stacks. If allied champions are nearby, the nearest allied champion gains the same effects.
Nilah dashes towards a direction dealing physical damage to enemies she passes through. Slipstream can be used anywhere at any time on the map. So if needed, use Slipstream to jump over walls to get away to safety. This is Nilah's mobility tool, which is important, especially because Nilah is a melee champion.
Empowered attacks from Formless Blade reduce the cooldown of this ability. Also, hitting any unit will refresh this ability's cooldown. Cooldown cannot be refreshed again within a few seconds.
Nilah whirls her whip-blade, dealing physical damage. Nilah also deals physical damage at the end of the duration and pulls nearby enemies toward her. Nilah also heals herself and nearby allied champions. Excess healing is converted into a shield.
Since Apotheosis doesn't do that much damage, it's best to keep this ultimate for the Crowd Control during a team fight or when you need a bit of healing.
Since Nilah is a melee champion, she greatly benefits from Physical Vamp to help keep her alive in team fights. Bloodthirster is the strongest first item for Nilah. You get a huge amount of attack damage, especially when you haven't lost a lot of health. Even when you lose health, the Physical Vamp from Bloodthirster can help you heal from minions or monsters. Infinity Edge is another excellent item for Nilah, as it increases her damage from critical strikes.
Onto the runes, we have:
Nilah will be attacking and using her abilities and combos to deal damage. This means you can get six stacks quickly, so she can deal extra damage and gain Physical Vamp.
Since Nilah auto-attacks a lot. Brutal is a great choice that helps Nilah's auto-attacks deal more damage at all stages of the game.
When enemy champions are low on health, Nilah can deal bonus damage. This will help Nilah kill enemies when dashing in. Giant Slayer is another good option when playing against Bruisers and Tanks that build a lot of health.
The healing from Bloodline will be more beneficial for Nilah for the sustain and survivability compared to attack speed from Alacrity. Legend: Tenacity is another excellent option when playing against champions that have Crowd Control.
When using Nilah's 3rd Ability Slipstream, she will gain Armor Penetration to deal more damage.
Nilah is one of, if not the worse early-game champions. This is because you are a melee champion that plays in the duo lane, and most other marksman will have longer range than you and use this to poke you down. The only thing Nilah wants to do is play passive and farm using her increased range from Formless Blade. Make sure to use Slipstream when in danger from enemies engaging or an incoming gank.
Once you reach the mid to late game and have your core items, this is where Nilah can look to dash in when she can and start using her auto attacks and abilities to deal a lot of damage. It's always best as a Marksman to stay grouped with your team. Try to be patient when playing Nilah, you don't always have to dash in at every opportunity but when you can dash in and use her Apotheosis to pull everyone in and carry the teamfight.
Nilah is a very fun but challenging champion to play. She is different from any other Duo Lane Marksman that you will play since she is a melee champion, so it will take some time to get used to, but as long as you are patient and wait for the right moment, she can be great.
